In short
- On iPhone you need a Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) or Wi-Fi adapter. iPhone does not see classic Bluetooth adapters.
- On Android the same ones work, plus classic Bluetooth adapters, which you pair first in the phone's Bluetooth settings.
- The four on this page are all BLE: they work on iPhone and Android, and they speak standard ELM327, which is what DrivePulse asks for.
The four we recommend
Veepeak OBDCheck BLE and OBDCheck BLE+
Bluetooth Low Energy, iPhone and Android. Veepeak lists DrivePulse among its compatible apps: it says so on the product pages of the OBDCheck BLE and the OBDCheck BLE+, and on the Amazon listing of the OBDCheck BLE+ in the UK and in Germany.
Vgate iCar Pro 2S
Bluetooth Low Energy, iPhone and Android. The Italian tech site Macitynet tested it with DrivePulse and published the review: the article, in Italian.
Vgate vLinker FD+
Bluetooth Low Energy, iPhone and Android. It is for Ford and Mazda owners who also use other programs that read the second network on these cars (MS-CAN). DrivePulse does not use that network, so it reads the same data as with the iCar Pro 2S. We saw it working in one user's debug log, on a Mazda; we did not buy and test it ourselves.
Which one to choose
- You want an adapter whose page names DrivePulse: Veepeak OBDCheck BLE or BLE+.
- You want the one a tech site tested with DrivePulse: Vgate iCar Pro 2S.
- You drive a Ford or a Mazda and use programs that read the MS-CAN network: Vgate vLinker FD+. If you do not need that network, the iCar Pro 2S is enough.
- iPhone or Android: the choice is the same, because all four work on both. On Android you can also use a classic Bluetooth adapter you already have: the list is on the page Which adapters work.
Good to know
- DrivePulse only reads: it does not clear fault codes and it changes no setting in the car.
- The links on this page show where we know it from. They are not affiliate links: we earn nothing if you buy one of these adapters.
- Dongles sold together with a single app do not work: they connect, but they do not answer ELM327 commands.
- If your adapter is not here, that does not mean it does not work. The full list, including the ones seen in users' logs, is on Which adapters work.
